Anyway, I normally would not allow myself to watch this but I'm fairly interested in hearing what Mrs.Palin will say in her speech tonight. (I can care less about what Mr. Romney and Mr. Giuliani has to say). Watching a speech by those two would be extending my limits.
Anyway, I read a story today that really shocked me. We all know about Mrs. Palin's 17-year old daughter who is now presumed to be about five months pregnant. What shocked me is that the Washington Post reported in an article today that Mrs. Palin used her gubernatorial powers to veto a measure in a proposed Alaskan spending bill earlier this year. The measure vetoed by Mrs. Palin was a measure that would've given funding to Covenant House Alaska. Covenant House Alaska also includes a program called Passage House; a program set-up to aid young teen mothers by providing them with transitional housing. Passage House allows young team mothers eighteen months in which the mothers can live with their babies while seeking to create a stable environment for them and their babies. Palin reportedly cut 20% of the funding that Covenant House has received in the past. That brings the total amount received by Covenant House down to a reported $3.9 million from about $5 million in previous funding.
I wonder how she feels now about cutting all of that funding for this cause. Furthermore, I wonder how she feels about all of the campaigning she has done in opposition to sex-education programs in the past few years??? Palin has been in strong opposition to funding programs that would do more to prevent teenage pregnancies around the country. I wonder if Mrs. Palin's opinion on this topic differs now that her own daughter is in this position. I wouldn't be surprised if her opinion hasn't wavered at all. Even though her daughter is now a part of the overwhelming number of young, teenage mothers; her daughter certainly doesn't have to depend on programs such as Passage House for help dealing with such a stressful situation. So what does Mrs. Palin care if Passage House can no longer provide young, teenage mothers with this kind of an opportunity??
I will end this rant with bringing up one more point: how can you be against abortions, sex-education programs, and programs such as Passage House all at once?? Makes no sense to me; if you won't help educate them from getting pregnant, won't allow them to abort the baby when they become pregnant, or won't provide them with programs to help them create a stable environment for the children once they are born then what exactly do you suggest to fix the problem??? What exactly do you suggest since you leave no other options??
